The Talyllyn Railway was built in the mid 1800’s as a means to to transport Slate from the Bryneglwys quarry. The slate from the quarry was used for the rooftops of buildings in the midlands.

Nowadays however the railway is simply a tourist attraction for visitors to the area. The vintage steam engines have been lovingly restored and maintained.

The journey from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol is full of points of interest and scenic views.

Once you reach Abergynolwyn there is a station cafe where you can stop for a drink and a bite to eat.

Along the route there are many interesting walks and places to explore. Why not get off at Dolgoch station and explore the beautiful waterfalls.
